After countless early mornings, skunks, and close calls, the elusive Corbina finally hits the sand. In this episode, we take you through the full surf fishing journey — from digging sand crabs by hand in the wet sand, to rigging up both heavy and light tackle, and finally locking into one of the most sought-after fish in Southern California
Fishing with my buddy Nick, we worked the troughs and sandbars at high tide, testing different rigs until the light tackle setup with 5 lb leader did the trick. The payoff? A beautiful 16-inch Corbina — my first ever — landed right in the surf. Nick also put on a show, hooking multiple fish and battling mystery runs that bent his rod to the max
This wasn’t just about the catch. It was about patience, persistence, and remembering the Indigenous roots of fishing — when bait was foraged, not bought, and every fish was respected. From dolphins swimming nearby to the excitement of bending rods, this episode captures both the struggle and the reward of chasing Corbina.
