The Last Samurai visits Dazaifu Tenmangu shrine and introduces the sad story of Sugawara no Michizane, the deity of Tenmangu shrine. Dazaifu Tenmangu is located in Fukuoka prefecture whose deity is Sugawara no Michizane, the famous nobleman, scholar, poet and politician in the 8th century. He was betrayed by Fujiwara family and demoted to Kyushu island and died there. But many disasters hit Kyoto after Michizane’s death. People were afraid of his curse and built Tenmangu shrine.
