The 6.5 Carcano cartridge, a creation of precision and power, developed by the Italians in the late 19th century, was specifically designed to be used in the Carcano rifle. It was also used in Carbines into World War Two and then by police units post war. It was known for its accuracy, long range and the ability to penetrate light armor. It was used on many fronts, from the mountains of Italy to the deserts of North Africa. It was however, notorious for overpenetration, which prompted the Italian military to change their cartridge just prior to WW2. The Italians would keep the 6.5 because of their logistical constraints while trying to switch to a new 7.35 cartrdige.
Though it is no longer in use, except for in civilian hands, the legacy of the 6.5 Carcano cartridge lives on as a testament to the ingenuity and skill of those who designed it.
