This is a compilation of trail camera footage from kiwi burrows on Stewart Island/Rakiura as part of our larger project (find out more here: / rakiuratokoeka . Specifically, this footage is from one of our sites on mainland Rakiura, called Kaipipi.
This selection of videos was chosen by one of our volunteers Rosie (awesome work Rose!), to show the wide range of endearing & unexpected behaviour wild kiwi engage in when they think no-one is watching...
Our project wouldn't be possible without the help of a lot of very special people. This video is a thank you to our supporters, and in particular, those that have enabled our work at Kaipipi. We have had (spectacular) accommodation provided for the duration of our study, which has been priceless. We have also had the commitment of local volunteers to help monitor our birds, and one in particular has been such an asset - that's you Ian!
It has been such a privilege working in the Rakiura community, with this taonga species. As we remove the transmitters from our birds and release them back to their wild & free lives, it is with gratitude, joy and a touch of sadness we watch them go & forever wonder what they're up too.
Thank you Kaipipi crew - This goes out to you!
