China-backed mega port reshapes Peru’s trade ties

At the end of 2024, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Peru’s former President Dina Boluarte inaugurated a 3.5 billion-dollar port in the Peruvian city of Chancay to bypass ports in the US and Mexico and reduce shipping costs. China is Peru’s most important trade partner, and it has been for more than one year.
