CNAO, the Italian Center for Hadrotherapy on Pavia university campus, is one of six hospital facility in the world using a particle accelerator to destroy cancer cells using protons and carbon ions. Its synchrotron is modelled on @CERN's smallest circular accelerator, LEAR. CER was crucial in the design and launch phase of CAO, thanks to the initiative and efforts of prof. Ugo Amaldi and the TERA foundation. This video was shot in 2010, shortly after it started welcoming its first patients. CNAO celebrated its 20th anniversary on Nov 26, 2021. To date, 3600 cancer patients were treated at this state-of-the-art centre.
