Tip Time! COLOR THEORY for neutralization

I wanted to take a quick moment out of my day to chat briefly about a very large topic, COLOR THEORY!

Working with Melanin Rich Lips requires a solid understanding of color theory, all PMU does, but even more so when you are shifting someone’s natural undertone to a NEW HUE!

Essentially, we are creating a new color/hue for our clients that will become their new undertone!

As lip blush artist you may be familiar with how to choose color based on the under tone of the lip to ENHANCE their color for a very natural healed result. This would be the next step in a client needing neutralization first!

Neutralization requires complimentary color theory. Just correcting a cool hue with a warm one is NOT enough you MUST consider the other aspect of that color that make it what it is, TEMPERATURE, SATURATION, VALUE (light/darkness)

Ask yourselves...is there only one green in the world? Then why would only one hue of orange or yellow or a combined peach work for all your clients? It can’t!

You as an artist need to have a solid understanding of color theory and then use that knowledge to adjust and create the perfect COMPLIMENTARY HUE that is complimentary to ALL OF THOSE FACTORS!

I know everyone wants on the neutralization train but this is incredibly difficult work that can go very wrong without the knowledge. I want you to board that train but do it prepared to handle whatever happens when you pull into the station.

Don’t wait till your clients come back HEALED darker or orange then try and modify it again.

Just using purple at this point to get “pink/nude” is like just using one kind or orange or yellow to neutralize that client in the first place 🤦🏽‍♀️
