Stevie Ray Vaughan wrote half the tracks on Couldn't Stand the Weather. The album reached No. 31 on the Billboard 200 chart and the music video for "Couldn't Stand the Weather" received regular rotation on MTV. The album received mostly positive reviews, with AllMusic giving it a four out of five stars.

The lyrics reflect themes of emotional turbulence and resilience in relationships. A few lines from the song:
“All these years you and I spent together / All this, we just, couldn't stand the weather”
It uses weather as a metaphor for the ups and downs of love and life, showcasing Vaughan’s poetic sensibility alongside his fiery guitar work.
