West Point Organist Craig Williams plays the Marche Triomphale basing its bold chords and melodic flourishes on the German chorale, "Nun danket alle Gott." Siegfried Karg-Elert was a prolific composer in the Romantic tradition of piano and chamber music. It wasn't until his Opus 65 that he turned his attention to the pipe organ, the instrument with which his compositional output would be most associated after that. Opus 65 consists of six books of chorale settings of varying length and complexity, totalling 66 works. This setting of "Nun danket," the 59th in the collection, would become one of his most played and popular works - appropriate for church services and recitals. The full choruses of the organ are shown with great effect, along with the contrasts between manuals. The hymn melody is not readily apparent, with the transformation of the melodic fragments throughout, though the overall piece bears the structural framework of the chorale, along with its overt joyful tone.
