Polaris built the RZR Pro XP4 Ultimate to blast through sand dunes at top speed and climb up the gnarliest rock trails. But Jeep took everything fans love about the Wrangler and dropped a lift, lockers, and air conditioning into the Gladiator Rubicon pickup truck. HotCars contributor Michael Van Runkle takes these two range-topping toys out to Johnson Valley in Southern California to see which one offers the most fun straight from the factory.
The Gladiator might have the edge in terms of creature comforts and horsepower but it also weighs more than twice as much as the RZR, plus that stretched wheelbase gives hardcore rock-crawlers fits. But it has air conditioning and windows that close. When these two desert toys head out on a 100+ degree day, can Jeep's pickup keep up with the suspension travel and mid-engined layout of the RZR?
