In this video, we begin our exploration of the Conquest Mine. This mine produced copper but was somewhat of an anomaly in the area. The mine operated from 1922 to 1929 achieving a net production value of over $25,000 ($360,000 when adjusted for inflation).
The mine was also worked more recently, during this time, the workings were extended much deeper into the mountain and large stopes were developed.
It is unknown exactly when the mine was reworked.
Ore minerals include chalcopyrite and azurite. Copper content of the ore ranged from 7-25%.
The mine contains an approximate 4,000-5,000ft of underground workings. The mine has several small sub-levels that were not easily accessible during our visit. The mine is in poor condition and will not be accessible for much longer. We came just in time! Throughout the series you will see many severe collapses that are inches from sealing off the mine.
In the next video, we find the most interesting features in the entire mine, so stay tuned!
