Starting in the coastal city of Bastia, I ride the narrow-gauge railway deep into the Corsican mountains, stopping at the central hub of Ponte Leccia before looping back for a lively evening in town.

Along the way, I navigate part of the route by rail replacement bus service, currently in place due to major engineering upgrades taking place until March 2025. These works focus on strengthening and restoring bridges and viaducts along the line—essential improvements that will ensure the future of this historic route through Corsica’s rugged interior.

Back in Bastia, I wrap up the day like a local: watching the Bastia football match at a buzzing café surrounded by passionate fans and warm island energy.
