Everyone anxiously awaits the beginning of ice fishing on Mille Lacs Lake around Thanksgiving. The isolated bays on Mille Lacs typically provide the first ice fishing opportunities of the season. Being one of the largest lakes in Minnesota, Mille Lacs provides incredible ice fishing opportunities. Its immense size can also pose its own set of challenges to anglers who are setting out on foot.
First ice on Mille Lacs can be unforgettable, often times producing trophy pike, fast perch action, and evening runs of walleye. I'll be covering my complete approach to first ice including where to find fish, and what techniques to use.
