Demo of using the SOOTHSAYER Path API to design a 40km microwave link from an island to a ship. At this distance, Earth bulge will block the link so heights and frequencies need considering carefully.
Achieving LOS is ok but clearing the Fresnel Zone by at least 60% is needed for a good quality link, free of interference. At 60% clearance, most power is reaching the destination directly, vs indirect reflections.
As well as trial and error at the user interface, the actual height needed is returned by the API. This information is visible from different clients and in the interface with the developer's console (F12).
In this demo, settings are exported as a template into Postman to review the raw API output which describes the heights needed to achieve different levels of Fresnel clearance.
