Canon RF 100-500 mm or RF 200-800 mm?

Whether to go for Canon RF 100-500mm or RF 200-800mm? Really a tough question. I tested both the lenses myself before concluding.

The RF 100 – 500 mm is an L series lens whereas the 200 – 800 mm is not. But honestly, I could hardly find much difference in terms of quality of image and sharpness, AF speed and low light performance of both the lenses.

Yes the 100 – 500mm is much more compact in terms of size and weight whereas the 200 – 800 mm is bulkier. A fully zoomed out RF 100-500mm is almost the size of a fully collapsed RF 200-800 mm. The weight of the RF 200-800mm is also slightly more than the RF 100-500mm.

So I would say if you are looking for more flexibility in terms of both wildlife and birds, go for RF 100 – 500mm, but if you are specifically looking for reach, specially for birds, then RF 200 – 800mm is the go to lens.
