Order remote interpreting services or register as an interpreter with us at https://www.translit.ie/ With remote interpreting becoming widely acceptable in the past few months, are we on the fast track to the vitual interpreting experiences being delivered by artificial intelligence? And where will this leave the human interpreters? TRANSLIT CEO Alex Chernenko shares his views.
The interpreting industry, just like many others, experienced quite a shock in March 2020 when the whole world went into lockdown. On-site interpreting became largely impossible, and we saw a rapid rise in acceptance of remote interpreting. Needs must. Remote interpreting in itself is not new, it originated in mid-20th century. Over-the-phone interpreting (OPI) was the first type of remote interpreting. Video Remote interpreting (VRI) followed. And in recent years, a number of cloud-based interpreting platforms appeared that offered a virtual take on simultaneous interpreting.
When interpreting services move into virtual reality, it opens new possibilities of involving new technologies into the process. By gaining wider acceptance, remote interpreting fast tracks us towards the world of virtual interpreting by artificial intelligence. This "future" may be much nearere than you think.
