Custom Steering and Track Bar Layout - [Project SuperDUkota - Dakota+Super Duty axles] Part 6

Progress is being made on this solid axle swap! If you are new to this project, I'm putting Ford Super Duty Dana 60 and Sterling 10.5 axles and 40's in to a 2002 Dodge Dakota 4x4 with the 5.9L Magnum V8.

In this video we choose and mount a power steering box, then lay out our drag link, followed by our track bar and track bar mounts! We then finish it off by doing our first flex check of the suspension to see how everything looks.

If you're building your own steering and track bar the most important thing to shoot for is a drag link and track bar that are parallel and equal length when the steering is at neutral! To clarify, the bars themselves don't need to be parallel, just the mounting points. If you draw a straight line from the drag link tie rod end pivot point at the pitman arm to the drag link tie rod end at the axle (in my case, the steering knuckle,) it should be the parallel and equal to the line drawn from the frame-side track bar mount hole to the axle-side track bar mount hole.

Properly setting up this drag link/track bar relationship prevents the steering from being pushed around by the track bar when the suspension compresses while driving down the road. This is how you prevent bumpsteer and death wobble and is critical when making a custom front suspension. If this explanation and the video don't fully clarify this concept, I will be releasing another video that takes a deeper dive in to this concept, as well as how it's affected by different steering boxes and steering styles.
