This is the Magnum XL 200 at Cedar Point in Sandusky, OH. It was the tallest (205ft) and fastest (72mph) when it opened on May 6, 1989. The Gameboy was first being introduced in Japan in the same year this coaster opened. It has an honored place in roller coaster history as it was the first coaster to reach 200ft in height. Since Magnum was the first coaster to break the 200ft barrier, it was given the Hyper Coaster designation. A Hyper Coaster is any coaster that has a hill or drop between 200-299ft in height. It also was the first large scale steel coaster not to have any inversions as this coaster was built when every steel coaster being built had inversions. This coaster was given a ACE Coaster Landmark plaque by the American Coaster Enthusiasts(ACE) club. This is a highly coveted honor as there aren't many coasters that have been given thus designation Magnum XL 200 was designed by the famous Ron Toomer and built by Arrow Dynamics at a cost of $8,000,000 USD. The height is 205ft, a drop of 196ft 8in, a top speed of 72mph, length of 5,106ft, and a ride time of two minutes.
