Many World War II RAF pilots were trained at the Debert aerodrome. It was located near Truro, Colchester, Nova Scotia. Stewart Poyntz was one of the unfortunate pilots that lost his life at 21 during the training as a result of poorly maintained aircraft due to parts shortages His Hudson aircraft (Number AM755) crashed a mile or two west of the airstrip shortly after takeoff killing him and 3 other servicemen. The aircraft was engulfed in flames after impact in some woods.
This 8mm cine film was made in the mid 1960's of a memorial service that took place in the Terrace Hill Cemetery in Truro to commemorate the lives of all those that lost their lives on behalf of their countries. We thank the people of Truro for their compassion.
