What was it with Majorette in the mid-80s and these wheels? I can't think of many if any castings they suited! Not the TR7, that is for certain.
This replica was introduced by the French manufacturer one year after the death of the final sports car to be produced by Triumph. The birth of the TR7 came at a time of financial turmoil for owners British Leyland. The company was about to be nationalised with the British government the major shareholder. At first, it was only available in the US. In fact, it's domestic release was delayed at least twice due to high demand in the States.
Unfortunately, the promising early sales did not sustain. Despite this, BL killed off the MGB in 1980 in the belief it was cannibalising TR7 sales. Things failed to improve and the last TR was gone by 1981.
My mission was to fix the error of Majorette's ways and improve on an ugly duckling. The casting had barrels of potential and this rough example did eventually spruce up nicely.
