Installation & Documentary - Made in Dafen

'Shenzhen Dafen Oil Painting Village' is the world's largest production and trading base for imitation oil paintings. The media named it "the world's art factory". But now, this small village, once called "China's cultural industry miracle", is inevitably going into decline.

After I entered the Dafen Oil Painting Village and had close contact with the painters, I learnt that some of the businessmen who aim at making money have changed their business and moved out of here. There are a number of "peasant painters" left to pursue their artistic dreams. Each gallery here has a unique story. I am going to tell the story of Dafen Oil Painting Village through an exhibition, which includes book design and video design. I want to tell the story of the 'peasant painters' in Dafen Oil Painting Village, who have transformed from copying famous paintings without creativity to becoming original artists.


I hope to let more people know that in this small village of 0.4 square kilometres, there are still people who keep their dreams and missions alive, and who have not stopped for decades.
