Moth Project Episode 14 "High Sierra Regatta"

Join me, Ryan the Rogue Rigger on my journey of restoring a Mach 2 International Moth that I picked up earlier this year. I have been upgrading it with all the modern systems with out breaking the bank and taking you along for the steep learning curve of learning to sail this Tasmanian devil of a boat.
I have dreamed of owning one of these since they first came out back in 2008 when I got to take one for a spin. It was an unreal experience/feeling that I have been chasing ever since. At the time they were crazy expensive to buy and not in my budget. These days they are still crazy expensive to buy new, now there are a lot of older moths on the second hand market that are relatively affordable (Less than a Laser/ILCA in this case).
For those of you who don't know, an International Moth is a single handed 11 foot long hydro foiling sailboat. These boats literally fly over the water on two hydrofoils doing speeds 2-3 times the speed of the wind.

This is my video of my first Moth regatta, the High Sierra Regatta that is hosted by the Fresno Yacht Club at Huntington Lake California. Huntington Lake is located at about 8000 feet above sea level adjacent to the world famous Yosemite National Park. This regatta has been around for ever and is a definite bucket list event. It is run over two weekends, the first being the dinghy fleets and the second weekend for small keel boats.
Im only doing the dinghy weekend.
I have wanted to do this event for a long time, my free time never lined up as I'm usually headed to the gorge or doing a 505 world championship. Styoked to finally make it this year and I had a blast! This video is highlights from our training sessions and the three races. Enjoy!
