This is a video I really enjoyed making. This is about a control board for a Coin Game from the Norwegian company Lars Berg. He was a Norwegian competitor to the traditional “knipsekasse” coin games that was run by the Norwegian Red Cross organization until the 1 Kr was overrun by the inflation and increasing card use that emptied the pockets for coins. This was a purely mechanical design made by a Finnish company. Most of the copies or other variants had electronics to detect winnings, and do the payout. The card that we are looking at here is from one of the more advanced games, and IT used a lot of C-Mos 4000 series logic to control the sensors, displays, counters, and solenoids.
The card was sent to me by Tommy from Arctic Retro, and he has done some work on it, mostly chip testing and swapping as he has not been able to get a schematic for this. He has done some reverse engineering, but there is a lot to uncover. We start by going through the datasheets for all the chips used on this card, and some basic measurements.
Hope you enjoy the content, please leave a comment, and do subscribe if you want to be notified when I post new videos.
Link to a more in dept usecase of the Logic Probe, and to the next part in this series.
