Presenting my AI Based Smart Basket project — a smart shopping solution that innovatively automates the checkout process in retail stores with simple yet effective hardware. The smart basket is powered with an Arduino Uno brain, an RFID reader to recognize customers or products, and an ESP8266 Wi-Fi module to allow connection with a cloud platform for sharing data in real-time. A 20x4 LCD display indicates present status, scanned items, and total bill amount. The contrast of the LCD is adjusted using a potentiometer for visible display. All the devices are wired with simple jumper wires and driven using a stable power supply, which makes the entire setup portable and efficient for demonstration. This project demonstrates how to create an efficient smart shopping basket from fundamental IoT and embedded systems principles, ideal for students, makers, or for someone who wants to create a retail automation proof of concept.
Objectives
• To develop a smart shopping basket that uses RFID technology for automatic item detection.

Methodology
The Smart basket operates through an RFID Reader, scanning RFID tags on products or customer cards. When a product with an RFID tag is put in the basket, the Arduino reads the tag ID and includes the item in the list. The information is shown on the 20x4 LCD, which is optimized for best viewing using a potentiometer. The ESP8266 Wi-Fi module links the basket to an IoT platform or cloud database for sending data like the list of products scanned, bill total, and customer ID for real-time monitoring. The jumper wires join all the modules in such a way as to provide correct signal flow and power distribution. An adequate power supply enables the basket to remain operational throughout shopping use. This minimalistic approach outlines how embedded systems and IoT modules can be employed to implement automatic shopping using simple hardware.
