This talk is the start of a new series in the book of Nehemiah. This book picks up from Ezra and tells the story of God’s people returning from exile and rebuilding both the walls of Jerusalem and their spiritual identity. Nehemiah who is Jewish, is the cupbearer to the Persian king and he leads the restoration of the city’s defences despite opposition, threats, and internal struggles. Nehemiah emphasises prayer, dependence on God, and faith, the same qualities that are relevant for us, as we assess what it is that God wants for our lives.
