DIY Notebook Zipper Pouch with Elastic | Easy Sewing Tutorial for Beginners by

In this beginner-friendly sewing tutorial, we'll guide you step-by-step on how to create a stylish and practical zipper pouch for your notebook. This fast and easy project is perfect for crafting enthusiasts looking to add a personal touch to their stationery or create a thoughtful handmade gift.

Here is what you need:
👉Outer Fabric
👉Lining Fabric
👉Non separating zipper
👉Zipper Pull
👉Elastic

Fabric selection: You can really use any fabric for this project. When using two light weight fabrics you might want to consider using interfacing such as SF101

or similar to add more strength.

When using faux leather or quilted fabrics you can omit the lining all together.

STEP1:

Measure your notebook and cut your 2 fabrics to the same size.

STEP 2:

Cut the sipper tape and elastic the same length (top to bottom) as your notebook

STEP 3:

With your zipper for installed, sew the two fabrics together with the zipper tape sandwiched in between.
Turn inside out once both sides are closed.

STEP 4:

Iron the edges and top stitch with regular presser foot installed.
NOTE: When using a polyester fabric (we used waterproof canvas as lining) make sure to reduce the heat on your iron.

STEP 5:

Install your zipper pull with your lining fabric facing out

STEP 6:

Insert the elastic into your project and sew the sides closed. You can re-enforce this seam by sewing twice over it.
Finish raw edge with a zig zag stitch.

STEP 7:

Turn right side out and enjoy your new pouch!

Optional Supplies:

If clips are not enough for you to keep things in place, consider using double sided adhesive tape like Wash Away Wonder Tape.
