South Carolina State Cross Country Championship Boys 2-A

The 2025 South Carolina High School League Cross Country State Championships took place on November 14-15 at the Aiken Steeplechase Horse Track.

The Boys 2-A race was the last event of day one…and we were treated to an outstanding competition. The trio of Brayden Bunt (Academic Magnet), Ben Elliot (Brashier), and Reid Finley (Liberty) grouped up early, pushing each other. Just after two miles, Finley made a decisive move and accelerated away from the others. He would never look back and claimed the gold medal in 15:39 for the 5K, averaging 5:02 pace-per-mile. Bunt stayed strong to finish eight seconds back, finishing in 15:47. Elliot earned the bronze medal in 16:04.

Phillip Simmons took their second State Championship within an hour span, after just winning the Girls 2A Championship. The Phillip Simmons Boys won with 37 points and taking runner-up, with 57 points, was Academic Magnet.
