PQC Laying Work Description
Pavement Quality Concrete (PQC) is a high-strength concrete used for rigid pavements, especially in highways, airport runways, and industrial roads. It is laid over a Dry Lean Concrete (DLC) sub-base and designed to bear heavy vehicular loads.
✅ Step-by-Step PQC Laying Process
1. Surface Preparation
Clean and level the DLC surface before PQC laying.
Ensure no dust, debris, or standing water on the surface.Apply a Polyethylene sheet or de-bonding layer over DLC to prevent bonding with PQC.
2. Batching & Mixing
Use an RMC (Ready Mix Concrete) plant or batching plant to prepare concrete of M40/M30 or higher grade.
Use graded aggregates, OPC 53 grade cement, admixtures, and potable water.
Maintain a low water-cement ratio (around 0.35–0.40).
3. Transportation & Placement
Transport PQC using transit mixers to the site.
Pour concrete in panels or bays as per design.
Use a paver machine or manually level the concrete using vibrating screeds.
4. Compaction
Compact the PQC using needle and surface vibrators or slipform pavers.
Ensure no voids or honeycombing are left in the concrete.
5. Finishing
Finish the surface using floaters or trowels.
Provide a broom finish for skid resistance in roads.
6. Joints
Provide expansion, contraction, and construction joints as per spacing and alignment.
Insert dowel bars and tie bars coated with epoxy for load transfer.
7. Curing
Start curing within 1–2 hours after laying using wet hessian cloth, polyethylene sheets, or curing compound.
Cure for at least 14 days to achieve strength and durability.
⚠️ Quality & Safety Notes
Check slump, temperature, air content, and cube strength of concrete.
Maintain temperature control
