Welcome back to the Modern DT&I!
In 2014, the DT&I, Norfolk Southern, and Conrail entered a partnership to revive the dying Triple Crown Roadrailer services, with the DT&I taking the midwestern routes, NS the southeast, and Conrail the northeast.
The DT&I’s main trains are Detroit to Kansas City (via SP at E. St. Louis), Ft. Wayne to Pittsburgh in cooperation with the Wheeling & Lake Erie, and St. Louis to Crestline. Other terminals include Cincinnati, Blue Island IL, and the newest addition at Clarksburg, WV.
Additionally, the DT&I handles an NS train from the mid Atlantic to the Detroit area via Ironton, and a Conrail overflow train from Chicago on occasion. All 3 railroads have seen business grow.
Today, we catch a northbound headed for Crestline, powered by GP40-2 427 and GP38 204, at Thackery, Quincy, and Sugar Street. 427 still wears fairly clean Ohio Central paint. Recent track work between Springfield and Lima have brought train speeds up to 45mph.
