👉7 Deadly Bar Chord Mistakes FREE PDF → https://www.jonmaclennan.com/7mistakes
Since I started riding motorcycles, I’m trying to get my habits right. But, I’ve been making many noob mistakes. For example...
RIDING TOO TENSE!
The bike can feel my nerves.
The way I hold myself translates directly to how she handles. Beginners ride tight. Wrists locked. Elbows stiff. Shoulders up around their ears. Knees clamped in fear. The more tense I am, the less control I have.
But the bike is built to flow... to lean... to move.
If I’m riding rigid, I’m fighting the bike. So, I’m trying to program myself for better habits.
The same goes for bar chords.
Many guitarists play too tense.
They squeeze their fretting hand and end up in a mess of aches and cramps. Many just want to play guitar and enjoy the music. But the physical stress keeps them from playing for extended periods.
Players that keep this up can end up with serious injuries like:
Thumb muscle wastage
Compression of nerves
Trigger finger
...or even total loss of the ability to play.
But like a motorcycle, your guitar was built to flow. You want to discover how to make the notes bloom out of it effortlessly.
I mean, think about it.
When you see great guitarists, they aren’t fighting their guitars, right?
Of course not, they are flowing.
And THIS is one of the great secrets of tone.
It’s got nothing to do with what gear the player is using. It has everything to do with touch.
Of course, you can’t be a jellyfish.
But there’s a way to do it, and a way not to do it. But most have no idea there is an easier way.
