🎄 Las Posadas are a nine-night celebration, or novenario, starting on December 16 and going up all the way up to Christmas Eve. And they represent the pilgrimage of José and María on their way to Belen for the birth of the sweet baby Jesus Cristo. 🫏
🪅 Like other things mestizo, Las Posadas have roots in both Mesoamerican, specifically Aztec, and Catholic traditions dating back hundreds of years.
👶🏽 That's right. Despite the baby Jesus of it all, Las Posadas replaced Aztec, or Mexica, celebrations. So they have flavors of Tonatzin and Huitzilopochtli mixed in. Watch to learn more and learn who that is!
