Using white duct tape (to reflect any absorbed heat) measure the outside strip of tape longer than the tree's wound along its bark, and another shorter strip, just enough to cover the wound. Affix the two strips of duct tape together, adhesive side to adhesive side, placing the non-adhesive side of the shorter strip directly over the missing tree bark.
Using painters tape, wrap the new "band-aid" for the tree around the entire circumference of the tree. This process will allow the tree to once again pull water from the root system up, along the interior of the tree (just below the bark) and into the region above the repair (transpiration pull).
