When learning to paint ink orchids, it’s common to begin with three leaf strokes. A single line is too simple for composition, and two lines often lack balance—three lines allow for exploring the tension and flow between each stroke.
The first line is the longest and anchors the composition. The second line follows the path of the first but crosses it and diverges midway. The third line begins alongside the others at the root, but above ground it bends in the opposite direction, eventually turning back to end in the same general direction as the first two.
Though they may appear simple, these three lines embody balance, tension, and unity.
They form the structural foundation of an orchid painting, and repeated practice is key to mastering their rhythm and flow.

Este video de 5 minutos y 52 segundos forma parte de una clase de pintura coreana con tinta, y se centra en la técnica básica de representar las hojas de la orquídea a través de tres líneas distintas.
Al aprender a pintar orquídeas en tinta, se suele comenzar con tres trazos de hojas. Una sola línea resulta insuficiente para la composición, y dos líneas suelen carecer de equilibrio. Las tres permiten observar la tensión y el flujo entre los trazos.
La primera línea es la más larga y establece el eje visual. La segunda sigue la dirección de la primera, pero la cruza y se separa en el trayecto. La tercera comienza junto a las otras desde la raíz, pero sobre la superficie se curva en dirección contraria, y finalmente vuelve a unirse al flujo general de las dos primeras.
Aunque parecen simples, estas tres líneas contienen equilibrio, tensión y unidad.
Constituyen la base estructural de la pintura de orquídeas, y su dominio requiere práctica repetida.
