Driving in Romania: Autostradă A1 E81 from Pitești to Bucharest

In this video you can ride along on Autostradă A1 E81 from Pitești to Bucharest in Romania. This is one of the oldest stretches of highway in Romania but it's well-maintained. A few parts of the A1 are still under construction, most notably the section Sibiu - Pitești through the mountains.

In the beginning you can see some of the construction ongoing on the lot from Pitești to Curtea de Arges. This 30-kilometer stretch of highway should be one of the first lots to open over the next few years on the section Pitești - Sibiu.

In comparison to other parts of the A1 I have driven, I must say that this one was by far the busiest as you can see in the video. Maybe a lot of people were returning to the capital from a weekend out or something, as this was on a sunday evening. Upon reaching Bucharest we immediately hit more dense traffic. Bucharest has quite a big traffic problem and its current ring road the DNCB is not very fun to drive. Hopefully the new A0, of which some parts have opened recently, will bring some much needed relief.
