R1NEG is the first DAF DB250LF to be built and delivered, and was first registered in 1/1998. Like its step-entrance predecessor, it was bodied by Optare and packaged as Optare Spectra.
Although R1NEG was the first low-floor double decker to be delivered to UK, it was however the second one to enter service, with a difference of 5 hours. It was to be launched by Travel West Midlands at noon on 4/2/1998, but Abus of Bristol launched their R222AJP, the third low-floor Spectra, at 0650 that day.
NXWM donated 4001 to Wythall Transport Museum on 19/6/2015 after withdrawing it from service. On "Fleetline 55" Running Day it joined the preserved heritage buses and worked on the car park shuttle service.
