I attempt to make a safety stick to hold down small parts at the miter saw (or any other saw) so that my hand is safely away from the blade. But this actually turned out to be a much more useful lesson in design and making.
As usual I was in chase of figuring out a diy build of something rather than buying it. But this time I forget a few things like understanding my own real world application in my shop. It's not that the "prototype" I ended up wasn't successful or that it could not still be used but the very specific use case I was making it for turned out not to work... which in itself is a good learning experience... and another chance to invent! In the end I pivoted and started over and ended up with something much simpler and easier to make and use.
