We all love our dogs. But sometimes they can be a little tough to handle when hitting the road. Luckily, our host of Campsite Classes is here to share some essential tips for RVing with your dogs.
Helpful pet tips to follow while you're RVing at our Sun Outdoors resorts:
1. Washable Blankets
Your dogs will get dirty on RV trips. Having dog-only blankets on hand that can easily be tossed in the wash is a must.
2. Stow-able Dog Beds
Having a foldable dog bed is essential. This keeps your furniture clean, so you have a nice place to nap that isn't covered in pet hair or fur.
3. Designated Eating Area
Keeping your dog's dining area in the same place is very important for consistency in their routine, especially for the older pooches.
4. Familiar Toy Bin
It's important, for younger dogs in particular, to have a sense of the familiar for long road trips. Since you'll be in new environments every day, familiar toys will help keep them calm.
5. WiFi Camera
When leaving your dog alone, having a WiFi camera is great! This provides you with peace of mind and entertainment to boot.
6. Outdoor Setup
It's always good to provide your pets with the same familiar outdoor setting. This can include:
a. Foldable Camp Bed: Have an easily stowable camp bed to provide a comfy place for your dog to sleep outside. Having a removable, washable cover for these is great as well.
b. Tie-Out: Anchor a tie-out to your RV so your dog doesn't wander off into your neighbor's yard or the road.
c. Water Bowl: Keep that doggy hydrated.
Useful things to keep in mind while traveling on the road with your pets:
1. Pet First Aid Kit
Keep a first aid kit on you for both road trips and hikes. They include useful items like eyewash, sting relief, antiseptic pads, and more.
2. Tie-Out
Bring a tie-out that you can attach to your truck or rig.
3. Locking Bowls
These handy items are great both for transporting food and for ensuring you don't have to smell it while on your trip.
4. Travel Water Bowl
Squeeze the container to fill the bowl with water. Then, let go to have the excess water drain back inside.
5. Dog Towel
Keep a designated dog towel handy to wipe off wet or dirty paws after stops.
6. Car Seat
Some states require you to keep your dog secured in a car seat and harness. Make sure you have one handy to remain in compliance as you travel throughout the country.
7. Dog Backpack
Have a dog backpack handy to help smaller breeds and senior dogs along on more difficult hikes.
Those are our tips on keeping things pet-friendly while you're on the road. How do you make your dogs more at home while RVing? Share your suggestions with us in the comments.
