Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease that causes painful joint inflammation and bone destruction. Many treatments abound, but more research is needed to develop drugs that work for all patients. In a recent study, researchers from Tokyo University of Science, led by Prof. Yoichiro Iwakura, examined the role of an immune receptor protein called TARM1 in the immune response to arthritic development in mice. Their findings can potentially deliver on new treatments for RA patients by targeting TARM1 regulation.
