The Role of Humility

(edited transcript) ... I think one of the most important attributes that any investor can have is humility. It's the people who proceed with certainty that usually end up getting beat up by the markets. Because the markets are anything but predictable. And that's you where you see, I think a lot of times, whether you're talking about market timing or investment decisions in general, and people will ask, “how do you know if you're still on the right side of the fence, if you will, versus now getting into danger territory with your mindsets, action strategies, etc.?” It always comes down to humility. Like, are you doing what you're doing with some recognition that you're not always going to be the smartest person in the room? Whoever you're trading against might know something you don't. You're not going to be able to predict the future of the markets, let alone the time frame in which certain events may play out. And so I know internally, we're always playing devil's advocate, trying to check each other, think through all the things that could go wrong so that were prepped, for those, but not using those things as an excuse to be fearful and understand that to some degree, all investors do need to be optimistic.
