‘덩’은 채편의 ‘따’와 궁편의 ‘궁’을 동시에 치는 것으로, 장구에서 낼 수 있는 가장 크고 유일무이한 소리이죠. 장구의 정체성을 보여주는 소리라고 생각해요. 하지만, 더 울림있는 소리를 위해서는 동시에 치는 것 보다, 따를 살짝 빠르게 치는 것이 좋습니다!

따와 궁의 울림을 비교해보면, 궁이 훨씬 울림이 크기 때문에 동시에 가죽을 울려주면 따의 소리가 묻혀요. 그래서 따를 살짝 먼저 울려주고 그 뒤에 궁의 울림으로 더욱 큰 소리를 만들어 주는 것입니다. 그렇다고 해서 너무 간격을 넓히면 ‘덩’이 아니라 ’따궁‘으로 들리니 주의하세요!

장구의 이런 면을 보면 배려심에 대한 생각이 들어요. 서로의 장점을 살려주기 위해 양보하는 것. 우리도 장구의 ’덩‘처럼 서로 배려하면서 살아보도록 해요!

"Deng" is the loudest and the only sound that a janggu can make, by hitting the 'dda' of Chae-pyeon and the 'gung' of Gung-pyeon at the same time. I think it shows the identity of the janggu. However, for a more resonant sound, it's better to hit 'dda' a little faster rather than at the same time!

If you compare the sound of 'dda' and 'gung', the sound of 'dda' is buried if you hit the leather at the same time. So, it makes a louder sound with the sound of the 'gung' after the sound of the 'dda'. Be careful, however, if you widen the gap too much, it will sound like 'Dda-Gung', not 'deng'!
