**Nice speakers or headphones recommended** There's some low end here, and iPhone speakers aren't gonna cut it...
UPDATE: Sorry for all the folks waiting on the answer...The shells are:
Vintage Maple.
I've had Delites and Prolites for years and love them, so I ordered this kit with the same shells. Papy nailed it! Thanks for the comments everyone, sorry to keep y'all waiting.
Swapped top heads, went from new coated Ambassadors, to a set of new Clear Emperors (well, ColorTone anyway). Also swapped the Sonor P3 clone to an Aquarian SuperKick II. Snare is a coated reverse black dot.
ALL other elements are the SAME between the first take and the second: Same mics, levels, same minimal eq, same crappy drummer (me).
Interestingly, I came away from this adventure with the revelation that what the mics hear is only half the story--the playing experience, the feel, has more difference to me than what comes across on the recording. I have more to say about this but don't want to give anything away..
Can you identify these shells?
With all the discussion and analysis about SQ2 shell options, I thought I'd see if anyone can correctly identify what shells mine are--I think there are 13 options on the SQ2 Configurator (obviously these aren't acrylic..), and folks have pretty strong opinions on what's "better" and "best". I have watched all the videos I can find, of course including DCP's fantastic comparison videos, and the differences seems to be less than you'd expect, given the discussions. And, I have yet to find a video that has a comparison where everything the same except single-ply to double-ply heads. So--now there's one, at least..
I know I could never pick 'em....curious to see if anyone else can! I'll reveal the truth in a few weeks. Post below!
Recording details: Didn't spend any time on the kick or snare, this video is about the toms. Although I hadn't heard this kick with this head before; these Aquarian SuperKicks are amazing, I'll never gig with a P3 again, if I can help it. Tom mics are AKG C418s, very slight eq, some plate verb, again, I did NOT change any settings between the head swaps.
