Victorian Shadow Treasurer Brad Rowswell says the Victorian government are “making life harder” by not trying to “ease the cost pressures on people” after it was revealed Victoria’s debt is set to soar to almost $180 billion by 2027.
The state’s dire financial situation was revealed in the Allan government 2023-24 budget update.
The Victorian government's net debt remains higher than the New South Wales, Queensland and Tasmanian debt combined.
“The Victorian government have many levers that they can pull to try and ease the cost pressures on people, especially at this time of year … and they’re not,” Mr Rowswell told Sky News Australia.
“This year alone, energy prices in Victoria have increased by 25 per cent for households, 26 per cent for businesses, and that’s making life harder.
“Things are going up; costs are going up.”
