It's the end of Year 11 for me, I can now go out to grab towers as I please! The first stop for me was Buckland, the country six in Surrey.
The bells hanging in this tower were all cast by John Warners with the 2nd and 3rd in 1860, the treble in 1892, and the 4th, 5th and 6th in 1900. The set aren't too bad when it comes to tonal properties, however they are notably loud in the Ringing Chamber. (Note the staircase to get there!).
Buckland, despite being a country tower, are rung fairly regularly. Three SACBR practices regularly visit here, including the Surprise Minor practice and the overall Minor Methods practice. In my case, it was the so-called "Wandering Bobs" - A practice designed for those who want to practice calling touches of both 5 and 6 Bell methods. Methods rung this time were Grandsire & Stedman Doubles, alongside Plain Bob, St Clements, Little Bob and Cambridge Surprise Minor. Very productive!
This was a new tower for me, bringing my tower count (at the time of recording) to 220!
The Church of St Mary the Virgin, Buckland, is affiliated to the Southern District (SD) of the Surrey Association of Church Bell Ringers. (SACBR)
