Went to see whats all damaged at the railroad crossings in my area after the prevous night Jan 7 through early morning Jan 8, 2023 the Sacramento area experienced wind gusts between 45mph and 55mph which increased to 60mph to 72mph through the night and on and off rain occationally heavy rain and some of the strongest winds I've ever seen in the Sacramento area. The storm knocmed out power to lost of Sacramento County and neighboring counties. The whole Sacramento Regional Transit light rail system of shut down this whole day after the storm as several crossings were damaged some type of way, trees fallen on the tracks, ppwer outages affecting the trains, and flooded areas. I havent got around to every railroad crossing in the area to check them just the ones in my area and most had bent and broken gates down the whole Gold Line and that combined with what I witnessed that night I believe winds were possibly briefly stronger than 72mph. We never had a storm where every crossing has broken gates but a few. Some crossings also had lights ripped off due to strong winds themselves and swinging gates in the wind breaking them off. Some of the crossings are activated due to power being out. SACRT early and mid 2000s crossings activavte when power goes out as they are running off backup power. The mid 2000s crossings aren't stuck down in this video is because piwer was restored in that area.
The wind was strong enough to blow a cantilevers mast cap off onto the catwalk and even loosen up a right turn black out signal at Zinfandel Drive. Near Birkmont Dr, a tree had follen onto the Gold Line track. One of many trees that have follen in Sacramento, California as a whole lots did and one of the trees that have fallen on the Gold Line itself as multiple did. I did get around but didn't take video and trees everywhere are down. Jackson Rd near Nevada Cement a large tree that fell on the tracks had already been cut up. Also the Jackson Rd crossing signal that was sinking is damaged once again for the second time due to a storm again. The night after this video another storm came but wasn't as strong. I have extened versions of Mather Field Road and Zinfandel Drive that I will post those as their own seperate videos also.
