I designed this set of four folding dinner menus to make any meal in my kitchen feel like fine dining. If the menu looks this good, surely the food is in the same echelon.
In this video, I hand-craft four custom dinner menu books, using the same bookbinding techniques, tools, and materials that you've come to associate with Bounty Archive. I begin by cutting enough binder board for front and back covers, as well as the liners inside. I also cut my logo into a 12" x 12" sheet of 1mm card using my Cricket Maker 3, and pasted the cutouts onto each cover. I prepare enough green leatherette to cover the four books, and enough black buckram fabric to line the inside of each. I wrap the cover boards in the leatherette, working quickly to deboss the letters of my logo and the label well on each cover. Using a 1/4" hole punch and specialized glue dropper, I position neodymium magnets within the boards and check their polarities. Covering this part in buckram book cloth made a snappy clipboard that can hold a new paper menu every night. After mounting the clipboards and liner boards, I designed unique labels and set them into the 1"x2" window on the cover. After thoroughly pressing the project in my homemade book press each step of the way, my menus took shape. All that remained was to add some metal corner pieces, a detail I couldn't help noticing on the menus at some of my favorite restaurants.
As I arranged the completed menus on my table, I felt like I was combining the parts of Exodia the Forbidden One.

Though bookbinding, Bounty Archive aims to stretch the traditional concept of a book (two covers, pages) into something more provocative and interactive. All of my books are created on location in my apartment in New York City.
I hope that you enjoy the sights, sounds, and general sensations of this video, to which I've added no music. While this is not intended to be a tutorial, you may feel inspired and/or challenged to use some of the featured techniques to make something functional and beautiful. I hope this is the case.
If you have questions about this process, materials, or bookbinding, just ask me in the comments. I read them all and I try to reply as soon as possible.
