Program Overview:
There are basically two types of vaccines: Shots and nasal-spray. There are 3 types of shots: regular, high-dose and intradermal. In addition, we now have quadrivalent and trivalent vaccines for the influenza. Every year the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) offers recommendations and guidance for the use of influenza vaccines. This knowledge based activity with review the ACIP recommendations and guidance for the 2013-14 influenza season, compare and contrast the different types of vaccines and give pharmacists a better understanding of indications, contraindications, and precautions for each type of available influenza vaccine

Pharmacist Educational Objectives:
Outline the Center for Disease Control's Advisory Committee on - - Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommendations and guidance for the 2013-14 influenza season
Compare and contrast the different influenza vaccination options to include ease of use, comparative efficacy, and safety profiles.
Describe the pharmacist's role as an immunizer and advocate for vaccinations
