Giresun is a province of Turkey. It is located in north-east Turkey on the Black Sea. It has borders with the following provinces: Trabzon in the east, Gümüşhane in the south-east, Erzincan in the south, Sivas in the south and south-west, and Ordu in the west. The Black Sea forms the natural border to the north.

Typical for the entire eastern Black Sea coast of Turkey are the mountain ranges and mountains of the Pontus Mountains, which reach down to the Black Sea coast. The region is known for this impressive landscape, not only in Turkey. Flat areas in the city of Giresun can only be found on the narrow coastal strip and between the two river courses and estuaries of the Batlama and Aksu Deresi. About two kilometers off the coast of Giresun is the small island of Giresun Adası (Aretias). According to Greek mythology, Heracles is said to have met the Amazons on this island.
