Real Madrid were forced to fight back for a 1-1 draw away at Girona — a result that cost them the top spot in La Liga and left fans devastated, while Barcelona supporters celebrated watching their rivals drop crucial points.

Girona shocked Los Blancos just before halftime when Azzedine Ounahi rifled a precise strike past Thibaut Courtois after Viktor Tsygankov carved open the defence. Real Madrid struggled throughout the first half, lacking sharpness in attack and cohesion at the back with makeshift centre-back pairing Antonio Rüdiger and the returning Éder Militão.

In the second half, Eduardo Camavinga injected control into the midfield, allowing Madrid to build pressure. Vinícius Júnior drew a penalty after drifting inside, and Kylian Mbappé converted calmly to make it 1-1 with his 23rd goal of the season.

Madrid pushed hard for a winner — Mbappé went inches wide in stoppage time and another Vinícius goal was ruled out for offside — but Girona defended bravely and held firm.

The draw leaves Real Madrid one point behind Barcelona, raising concerns after a run of just one win in five matches. Barca fans celebrated the result, while Madrid supporters were left frustrated and heartbroken ahead of a difficult stretch of the season.
