A helpful tip is to always roll out the precut window tint kit on a flat table. Once it is fully rolled out, the next step is to section everything, keeping in mind that the pieces are in sets and mirrored.
First, clean the outside of the windows using a highly absorbent microfiber towel. Generously spray both the window and the surrounding area. It’s crucial to wipe down the area around the window before cleaning the window itself, as dirt often builds up in that area.
Once the outside is clean, move inside the vehicle. Spray the interior portion of the window with a slip solution. Then, go back outside and peel the liner halfway off the precut window tint. Spray the exposed adhesive with the slip solution, pick it up, and position it on the inside of the window. It’s essential to leave about an eighth of an inch gap at the top and sides for long-term durability; there’s no need to trim it with a knife at the end. Once the piece is positioned uniformly, spray it with the slip solution and use a squeegee to smooth it out side to side. This helps hold it in place, allowing you to roll up the window. It’s a good idea to clean the window one more time when rolling it up.
Next, remove the liner and spray the slip solution again. Tuck the corners behind the molding at the bottom first; doing this will help even out the tension on the entire piece, allowing it to adhere properly. Always squeegee from the top down, using the corner of the squeegee to tuck the material behind the molding. After the sides are tucked in, squeegee the middle section.
For finishing touches, go over the edges with the corner of the squeegee and absorb any moisture with a microfiber towel. Once that section is secured, clean the main area of the window again and remove any moisture on the vehicle's side panel. After everything is dry and clean, check the outside for any edges that aren’t properly sealed. Use the hard side of the squeegee to ensure everything is tightly sealed and give it a final wipe down.
For the rear window, which is curved, create an “H” shape with the slip solution using a paper towel: a vertical line on the left and right and a horizontal line in the middle. Place the rear window piece of the precut window tint on the glass, ensuring it’s even from left to right. Lock it in at the middle edge and then to the sides, followed by squeegeeing it into place.
Now it's time to shrink it on. Here, we’ll speed up the process so you can see the entire method. Be sure to squeegee in small sections, roughly three inches at a time, and work from side to side. Avoid squeegeeing vertically all the way to the edge, as this can create bubbles. Keep the heat on a medium setting to avoid burning the film. Once the bottom section is flat, repeat the same steps for the top. The precut window tint should lay completely flat on the rear window.
Once in position, squeeze it down with overlapping squeegee strokes. The triangle squeegee that comes with the Rvinyl kit is great for tricky areas that are hard to reach. Be extra thorough during the squeegee process to ensure no moisture gets trapped under the adhesive side of the precut window tint. Fortunately, most back windows don’t have molding to tuck the material behind, making this process more straightforward.
After all the moisture is removed, double-check the edges, and you’re done!
The final piece is the small triangle window often located at the rear of the vehicle. A helpful tip is to use the tabs that come with the precut window tint kit—one on the liner and one on the tint. This way, the liner can be safely released without touching the adhesive side. As it hangs from the tab, generously spray it with the slip solution. Also, spray the inside portion of the window with the slip solution again, then squeegee it on. Squeegeeing from the inside can be awkward, so a good strategy is to anchor it in the right position and then stand outside the car for a better view of how to remove moisture all the way to the edges.
With this final piece installed, the last step is to wipe down the outside of the car. Here’s a shot of the final result. With the right tools and the Rvinyl precut window tint kit, you can achieve a professional-looking installation.
