Hebrew Word Focus: Shalach (שָׁלַח)
Meaning: To send forth, to stretch out, to dispatch.
Function: Shalach is not just about going—it’s about being commissioned, empowered, and released by God with authority and intention. When God shalach-s a prophet, He doesn't simply instruct them to go; He backs them with heaven’s weight.
This word shows up throughout Scripture when God sends prophets, messages, or even His Spirit. It carries the full weight of divine purpose, signaling that the one sent carries the voice, authority, and backing of the One who sends.
Scriptural Examples:
Exodus 3:10“I will send (shalach) you to Pharaoh…”
Moses was not casually chosen—his sending came with miraculous power and a divine mandate.
Isaiah 6:8
“Whom shall I send…? Here am I. Send me!”
Isaiah’s prophetic calling involved voluntary surrender in response to encounter, and a shalach that followed a burning vision.
Jeremiah 7:25
“I have sent (shalach) to you all My servants the prophets…”
God continually sent His prophets with consistent divine initiative and purpose.
Key Insight:
Shalach reveals that prophetic ministry is not self-appointed—it is divinely initiated, empowered, and backed. Prophets are sent, not self-made. And when you are truly sent, heaven goes with you.
